Condition Survey’s provides a detailed assessment of all areas made available by the owner or vendor. The Client is provided with a more thorough understanding of the favourable and less favourable aspects of the boat/vessel or intended purchase. In the case of a Pre-Purchase, the survey report aims to assist the potential buyer when it comes to the decision on whether to purchase the boat or not.
In order that the full value of the survey can be realised this type of boat survey should rarely be carried out if the craft has not been placed out of the water and ideally only when the below water areas have been cleaned.
Several methods of assessing the boats structure are employed and include, but not limited to, non destructive thickness detection which is carried out using an Ultrasonic thickness testing device.
After the boat/vessel survey has been completed, a detailed written report is provided to the Client requesting the survey. If desired and requested by the Client, a list of recommendations and a suggested time scale for completion of the rectification work will be issued in separate document.
If also required, and as an additional component, an estimated market value of the boat can be provided as part of the pre purchase report document.
Valuation Surveys may be required for a variety of purposes. Insurers will often require a valuation before a policy is issued or items added to an existing policy. However, in this scenario it is more usual for a valuation to form a part of a Condition Survey, where a valuation survey itself may be appropriate if an increase to the insured value of a boat/vessel with an existing policy is being sought.
Valuations are often requested as but not limited to, part of asset evaluation for companies, by executors of an estate of a decided owner, or where an abandoned craft is to be disposed of.
The value of a boat/vessel is assessed as an open market value, in a willing buyer and willing seller basis and on an ‘as seen and as lying’ basis.

Insurance underwriters will commission a damage survey to confirm the cause and extent of damage and the likely cost associated with the insured liability. However, a boat/vessel owner, in dispute with their insurers can request an independent survey to assess their position.
A damage survey can be of value to an uninsured party, or an insured party wishing to take additional opinion on a matter.
Boat/vessel owner operators may also request a damage survey to assess the extent of damage and the potential cost associated for repairs.
Machinery survey’s, like condition survey’s, will assess the condition, and functionality of the equipment in relation to intended purpose and general installation on a boat/vessel.
A detailed report will be compiled at the end of the survey and provided to the Client requesting the survey.

Ryan, our owner and Head Surveyor, has extensive experience with boats and ships, having been involved in the marine world from a young age. Following his high school education, he attended the Nova Scotia Nautical Institute, graduating with Honours as a Cadet in Marine Navigation. His career began at sea onboard the largest fast ferry in North America at that time, The Cat, powered by four water jets.
Returning to his roots, Ryan fished in the North Atlantic and then transitioned into the Oil and Gas sector, specializing in Marine and Subsea Construction. He served aboard heavy lift and pipelay vessels of various sizes and capacities, operating in waters from 0m to over 2000m deep worldwide. His professional journey saw him rise through both onshore and offshore management and command roles.
With over 20 years of combined experience, Ryan has worked as a Barge Master, OIM, OCS, Marine Manager, and Client Representative. His expertise includes towing, barge handling, pipelay (both shallow and deep water using S and J Lay techniques), heavy lifting with offshore and onshore cranes, multi-crane lifting and planning, anchoring, vessel planning, and providing management support, project planning within the diverse marine industries and MWS services.

Marine Survey pricing is directly related to the length overall (LOA) of the vessel to be surveyed, the condition of the vessel and time spent during the physical inspection. A standard price per foot used as a base rate.
Consultations are price per hour with a minimum of 1 hour charged per invoice.
Administration fees are conclusive to Survey and Consultation Fees.
All pricing is subject to the Terms and Conditions of SeaWYND Marine Inc. and the Customer Agreement.
